Next Stop: New York
Capital mobilisation and sector transformation, working together.
Next week, World Climate Foundation returns to New York with a clear purpose: keep capital moving and put more weight behind sector transformation.
At London Climate Action Week, our focus was Capital Mobilisation: how to unlock and structure the investment that sustainable growth requires. That work continues in New York, while our second impact lever, Sector Transformation, moves to the foreground.
Through World Climate Impact Week and World Climate Summit: New York, we will work with business, finance, government, think tanks, and solution providers on the sectors and investment pathways where action can move now. The week combines coalition roundtables, targeted meetings and the Summit on 24 September, under the theme Scaling Energy and Nature Solutions for Sustainable Growth.
This is the next step in WCF's 2026 Roadmap: from capital mobilisation in London, to capital mobilisation and sector transformation in New York, to Market Growth through public-private partnerships at COP17 and COP31.
SECTOR TRANSFORMATION
Moving through secor coalitions
No company can transform a sector alone. The task is to bring demand, solutions, finance and enabling market conditions together around specific barriers and opportunities.
During World Climate Impact Week: New York, WCF will advance the Future of Food and Future of Mining Coalitions and launch the next wave of sector work across Energy, Cities and AI & Technology. Energy, Cities and Food are also being connected to the official Climate Action Agenda, tying our coalition work directly to the global action track.
Across the week, coalition meetings and leadership roundtables will identify the practical conditions needed to scale solutions and mobilise investment.
At World Climate Summit: New York, the same agenda moves onto the main stage. Scaling Solutions: Shaping Markets for Scale examines the demand, investment signals and enabling frameworks that solutions need to compete and grow. Powering the Transition: Energy, Infrastructure & Industry focuses on where capital and solutions must accelerate deployment.
CAPITAL MOBILISTION
From commitments to capital deployed
Mobilising capital remains central to delivering the transition at scale. New York continues the finance agenda advanced in London, across both energy and nature.
On energy, WCF and the Investment Mobilisation Collaboration Alliance (IMCA) partners will focus on turning public and catalytic finance into larger pools of private investment.
On nature, the Nature Investment Coalition will progress through “Nature Finance in Practice: What Works and What Comes Next” and the Nature Investment Forum. The Summit will close this workstream with an announcement on the Forum's next steps, led by the Green Finance Institute, the World Climate Foundation and Harvey Locke.
Together, these sessions will strengthen investment pathways, align public and private capital, and define the next actions across energy and nature markets.
PROOF THAT THE COALITION MODEL DELIVERS
From collective ambition to capitl at scale
Our coalition model connects the actors that control different parts of a market around defined outcomes.
Through the Climate Investment Coalition (CIC), WCF helped mobilise more than USD 130 billion in climate investment commitments from Nordic and UK pension funds in 2021. Last month, Danish pension funds announced that they have surpassed their USD 70 billion green investment target already five years early, driven by investment in renewable energy and other green assets.
That is the model at work: organise stakeholders in sectors around shared outcomes including public-private partnership, build the mechanism needed to act, and move from commitment to deployment and measurable impact.
THE WORLD CLIMATE FOUNDATION RECEIEVS GENERAL UN ACCREDITATION
Bringing the action track closer to international decision-making
Decisions taken through the UN system increasingly shape the frameworks, priorities and market conditions that businesses and investors must navigate. At the same time, international processes need stronger connections to the capital, technologies and sector experience that delivery requires.
We are very proud to announce that WCF has been granted [special] consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in addition to our observer accreditation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This gives us formal access to UN meetings, conferences and processes beyond the climate negotiations, and strengthens our ability to connect our business and finance network with policymakers across the international system.
THE WORK AHEAD
From New York to COP17 to COP31
New York sits within a wider 2026 roadmap. Each moment advances the same impact model, with the emphasis shifting as the work develops.
At COP17 and COP31, WCF will strengthen the third impact lever, Market Growth. The focus narrows to the public-private interface: the policy, regulatory, investment and market conditions that determine whether capital and solutions can scale.
New York is where capital mobilisation and sector transformation move forward together, and where the work towards the COPs builds momentum.
We look forward to working with our partners in New York to mobilise capital, strengthen coalitions and deliver the next phase of action.
