Journalist/Writer- Part-Time Position

Additionally, to work alongside inspiring leaders from government, business, financial institutions and civil society that are leading the way and shaping our future.

We are looking for a goal-oriented and driven person to join our fast-moving and international team for a part-time position (20h per week). You will support and contribute actively to the communications of our newsletters and other marketing pieces, covering several high-level projects and international climate, biodiversity and health events.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Identifying the key news stories within climate, biodiversity and health for our community

  • Developing internal and external story ideas, conducting research and interviews, writing, editing, and proofreading our weekly newsletters in climate, climate finance, biodiversity and health

  • Writing press releases, including outreach to global media

  • Assist with copywriting for miscellaneous materials, e.g., sales materials, websites, interviews

  • Source and coordinate communication with project managers and partners

  • Interviewing partners and other external stakeholders for relevant content

  • Collaborating with the Communications & Marketing team to provide all elements for newsletters (photos, graphics, etc.)

  • Support our communications team in developing and implementing communications strategies that align with the World Climate Foundation’s objectives

  • Maintain and update working project databases, systems and plans


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven working experience in journalism

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Journalism, English, Communication or similar

  • English as native language is a requirement

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills

  • B2B writing experience is strong advantage

  • Experience in climate, biodiversity and/or health is strong advantage

  • Understanding of the current news flow in climate and biodiversity

  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into newsworthy and impactful news pieces for a diverse, global audience

  • Well-organised, proactive, self-motivated and flexible with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a larger team

  • Previous experience PR is an advantage

  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines and respond quickly to breaking news

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Comfortable coordinating multiple projects at once, while demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts

  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Mailchimp

  • As a communications professional, you know how to inform and engage key audiences
